Nursing

Michelle Nadon, Director of Nursing

The Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital (JRH) Nurses, Nursing Assistants and Patient Attendants provide care to clients who are hospitalised, or have ambulatory or home rehabilitation therapy. Nurses, with the medical team, evaluate the client’s physical and mental status to ensure that the client can participate in rehabilitation activities and that any change (deterioration/complication) in the client’s medical status gets treated. Moreover, the Nursing team coaches clients and their families in the application of what they learn in therapy into their daily life activities. Nurses teach clients about their illness, their medications and about preventative measures. The Nursing team provides support to the clients and their families in their adjustment to the client’s physical and mental status. Nurses, with the other professionals and in collaboration with clients and their families, plan for the client’s reintegration into the community.

The JRH Nursing team possesses rehabilitation nursing expertise. Continuing education is provided to Nurses to ensure an up-to-date nursing practice based on research and expertise.

Philosophy
The JRH Nursing team believes in the clients’ and families’ need to participate in their care, therefore, clients and families are included in setting their care objectives, interventions and their discharge planning. The Nursing team works with clients and their families to facilitate the clients’ return to optimal functioning and well being.

The JRH Nurses also believe that they need to act as one of the main resources for clients and families. They work to ensure continuity in care and flow of information required by the clients and families. They also act as client/family advocates.

The JRH Nurses believe in the need for clients to receive holistic care, that is care taking into consideration all clients’ physical and psychosocial needs. Nurses focus not only on clients’ medical and functional status, but also on clients’ and families’ psychological and social support needs.

The JRH Nursing team makes it its duty to provide clients and families with the highest quality nursing rehabilitation care and services.
