Technical Aids Services

Objective
The Technical Aid Services Department's (SAT) purpose is to maximise by means of technical aids or devices, the fulfilment of daily life activity for people with a physical disability in locomotion, mobility and posture. The attribution of a technical aid (wheelchair, walker, cane, posture aide, specialised cushion, and orthesis /prosthesis) is intended for maximising autonomy, diminishing handicap situations, improving quality of life and insuring social participation.

Approach
The evaluation of the required need is interdisciplinary done with the occupational therapist of the SAT, the referring occupational therapist in the health network, if that is the case, an orthesis/prosthesis technician and if needed, an orthesis/prosthesis mechanic. The constant communication between team members permits to target the needs and take in consideration all the daily life activity, environment, personal factors and aptitudes of the client as well as fitting his needs while keeping in mind the limits imposed by certain kinds of equipment.

Clientele
The technical Aid Services Department welcomes a clientele of all ages from the Laval region. They must have a physical handicap. They are generally referred by a professional in the health network. Some are referred by other governmental institutions: (SAAQ, CSST, and Former Veteran's), etc.

They must be eligible with the requirements of the governmental institution: (RAMQ, SAAQ, CSST, private insurance or others).
